Dog Food Storage

Lets face it. Dog food storage usually consists of dumping 50 to 100 pounds of dog food into a trash can purchased from Wal-Mart.  Don't know about your back...but mine hates bending over the trash can when I get to the bottom of the can.

Another factor about commercial plastic trash cans is that many of them are treated with toxic chemicals to keep rodents and insects from being attracted to them.  Do you really want the family pet to eat toxic chemicals that are sure to leech out of the plastic and into their favorite brand of kibble?

Of course, you can leave the kibble in the bag it comes in from the store.  The bags are essentially paper designed to be somewhat more durable than standard paper bags.  They are susceptible to rodents, insects and moisture.  Not to mention that if Fido gets loose and realizes the food is in the bag...well, it won't be for long. You will want a solution that's a little better than leaving it in the bag.

Some things to consider when choosing a dog food storage solution for your pet.

use containers that are designed to hold food not chemicals or detergents.  Fido's health will appreciate it.

Consider how much dog food you are going to store. Do you buy a 10 pound bag of food every two weeks? or do you buy a 50 pound bag?  How long do you plan on storing the food? Remember even dog food has a shelf life so you don't want a container that can hold a 2 year supply when the dog food will expire in 12-18 months.

Is it fido proof? you don't want a container that your dog can chew through while you are at work.

Make sure it has a lid that can seal and won't let pests in.

Durable, sturdy, child and dog proof

Easy to clean

Easy to get dog food out of

Fits the storage area

Keeps food safe, dry and fresh

If its a larger container you might want handles and wheels for easier movement.

Keep in mind that these tips can work for almost any food storage container for any pet.
